Spider Cakes, Pumpkins and Monsters.

We've been having a Play Dough kind of morning. Since its nearly Halloween I decided to put a bit of a Halloween twist on it. Although I'm happy with the children exploring Halloween I'm trying to avoid certain aspects of it, such as gore, scary things or things to do with death. Therefore we are sticking to pumpkins, bats, spiders and friendly monsters.

I provided the children with, plastic spiders and bats (from the 99p store), a few brightly coloured feathers, pipe cleaners, straws, cake cases, craft googley eyes and home made play dough in orange, purple and black. I used the easy to follow recipe from Imagination Tree to make the play dough. I made my own spider cake and monster while setting out the table to guide the children.

Theo was straight into making a monster, apparently sticking eyes onto stuff is very fun!

Abigail started with Spider Cakes. She tends to see play dough as a way to do pretend cooking.

With a little encouragement Abigail joined in making a monster to eat the cakes.

Abigail's monster.

Theo's monster.

I made a pumpkin.... well the children don't get to have all the fun!

Abigail copied me and made her own pumpkin.

Abigail has been playing solidly with the play dough for about 2 hours and still finding things to do with it. We've had monster tea parties, pumpkins grow legs and even invited the dinosaurs for tea, though they started stomping on the cookies and leaving footprints. I love play dough!! And so do the children!
